Cloud Cushion Tutorial


I thought I'll have a break from my animal kingdom collection.

So here's a cloud cushion =] 

This cushion is really simple.
Took me less than 30minutes to make
AND  It's fun, cute, soft and cuddly!

 

Here are the templates for this cloud cushion:

All four templates are required for this tutorial.
(Templates are for non commercial purposes only.)

The fabrics that I used for this tutorial are not expensive and you can buy it from any fabric shops or outlets (I bought mine from Spotlight).

The amount of fabric I bought for this cushion are:
- 35cm of Pink Polar Fleece @ $4.99/m
-35cm of White Polar Fleece @ $4.99/m
- 1 sheet of Black Felt @ 50c/sheet
- 1 bag of Polyester Stuffing @ $13/kg (can make around 6+ cushions)
(This amount is enough for you to make 2 cushions)

Steps to creating a Chicken Cushion


What you need
  • Template/Pattern Piece
  • 35cm Yellow Polar Fleece
  • A sheet of Black Felt
  • A sheet of Orange Felt
  • A piece of Pink Polar Fleece or Pink Felt
  • Polyester Stuffing/Filling
  • Pins
  • Black, White and Pink Threads
  • A needle
  • A pair of fabric scissors and/or a sharp pair of scissors
  • Glue or Sticky Tape
  • Sewing machine (alternative: you can hand stitch)
Steps
  1. Glue or sticky tape template pages together
  2. Cut out template
  3. Pin template to the fabric with right sides together: face, wings, feet, cheeks and eyes
  4. Cut out fabric
  5. Pin template to fabric: tail
  6. Cut out fabric
  7. Stitch the beak right side together but leave a small gap for turning inside out
  8. Turn beak inside out
  9. Stuff the beak a little
  10. Hand stitch opening
  11. Stitch the eyes, cheeks and beak to the right side of face
  12. Sew the wings right sides together and leave an opening (pin to make sewing easier)
  13. Clip the edges (not too close to the stitching)
  14. Turn the wings inside out
  15. Sew the feet right sides together and leave an opening (pin to make sewing easier)
  16. Clip the edges (not too close to the stitching)
  17. Turn the feet inside out
  18. Fold wings and pin onto face
  19. Pin feet onto face
  20. Pin feathers onto face
  21. Stitch feathers, wings and feet onto face
  22. Hand sew a running stitch around the edge of the tail piece
  23. Gently tug running stitch thread to gather edge of the circle
  24. Stuff the tail
  25. Hand stitch the tail onto the right side of back face
  26. Pin faces right sides together
  27. Sew face and leave a small opening at the bottom (1cm seam allowance)
  28. Trim and clip the edges of the face (not too close to the stitching)
  29. Turn face inside out
  30. Stuff the face
  31. Hand stitch the small opening at the bottom and you're done
Congratulations! You’ve created your own chicken cushion!

Steps to creating a Bunny Rabbit Cushion




What you need
  • Template/Pattern Piece
  • 35cm White Polar Fleece
  • 15cm Pink Polar Fleece or Pink Felt
  • A piece of Black Felt
  • Polyester Stuffing/Filling
  • Pins
  • Black, White and Pink Threads
  • A needle
  • A pair of fabric scissors and/or a sharp pair of scissors
  • Glue or Sticky Tape
  • Sewing machine (alternative: you can hand stitch)
Steps
  1. Glue or sticky tape template pages together
  2. Cut out template
  3. Pin template to the fabric with right sides together: face, ears, cheeks and eyes
  4. Cut out fabric
  5. Pin template to fabric: arms and legs, tail and nose
  6. Cut out fabric
  7. Stitch the eyes, nose and cheeks to the right side of face 
  8. Sew ears together with right sides together and leave bottom open (pin to make sewing easier)
  9. Clip the edges (not too close to the stitching)
  10. Flip ears inside out
  11. Fold ears in half to find centre
  12. Fold corners towards the centre and stitch in place
  13. Pin ears onto face
  14. Sew the arms and legs and leave bottom open (pin to make sewing easier)
  15. Trim and clip the edges (not too close to the stitching)
  16. Flip arms and legs inside out
  17. Stuff arms and legs with polyester
  18. Pin ears and arms and legs onto face
  19. Stitch ears and arms and legs onto face
  20. Hand sew a running stitch around the edge of the tail piece
  21. Gently tug running stitch thread to gather edge of the circle
  22. Stuff tail
  23. Hand stitch tail to the right side of back face
  24. Pin face right sides together
  25. Sew face and leave a small opening at the bottom
  26. Trim and clip the edges of the face (not too close to the stitching)
  27. Turn face inside out
  28. Stuff the face
  29. Hand stitch the small opening at the bottom and you're done

    Congratulations! You’ve created your own rabbit cushion!

How to do a Blanket Stitch

If you are planning on hand sewing your cushions/toys, use the blanket stitch for all the edges.

How to do a Blanket Stitch

Steps:
  1. Tie a knot at the end of your thread to secure thread
  2. Insert needle through the back of fabric and pull it all the way through
  3. Leave a gap and Insert needle through the back side of the fabric, but don’t pull it all the way through. Leave a little loop and put the needle through the loop and pull it tight
  4. Repeat until you’ve finished stitching required edges 
  5. Tie a knot at the end

This tutorial shows you how I’ve hand stitched the eye onto a face.

How to Hand Stitch Faces
(eyes, nose, cheeks etc.)


Steps:
  1. Tie a knot at the end of your thread
  2. Insert needle from back through both the face and eye (approx. 2mm in from edge of eye)
  3. Insert needle from front through white fleece (on the edge of the eye)
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you have finished stitching
  5. Tie a knot at the end

Hey all,

this is my first blog!

So why did I create this blog?

I wanted to announce that I finally got my YouTube Channel up. YAY! I will kick off with making an animal kingdom of cute cushions so check out my video and subscribe to my channel if you would like to learn how to make them.
